Siq - the narrow gorge leading to Petra.

The water channels on both sides of the siq used to bring water from a spring several miles away to the center of Petra.

Petra is the legacy of the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled in southern Jordan more than 2,000 years ago. Most of the buildings in Petra are cut into the pink sandstone. Al Khazneh ( the Treasury) seen here was used in the final sequence of the movie Indiana Jones.

In Wadi Rum, I stayed with the Zawaidahs for one night. This picture was taken right after they milked the camel. I helped the kids with their math homework and they helped me practice writing their address in Arabic.
